Learning To Pray

Prayer-less lives are Powerless lives, while Prayer-full lives are Powerful lives!

God so desires to hear our prayers, to be in conversation with us, and to help us. He wants us to give Him thanks and have faith in Him.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him.

Romans 8:28

Have you ever prayed and asked, “I just want to know and see the plan, Lord.” Every time I have asked that, I’m so glad it was God’s plan and not mine that came to light, for He always knows best!

One night in my quiet time with the Lord, He asked me a question: “Why do you need to know the plans I have for you? Why can’t you just trust and have faith in my plan?”

He reminded me of Jeremiah 29:11:

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord,  “plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Prayer is not only something we need to do to have a relationship with God, prayer can also bring:

  • Peace in the storm
  • Hope in times of need
  • Comfort in times of sorrow
  • Gratitude in times of wants and desires

So go before Him and pray boldly, believing He is answering your prayers. Some may not be answered, for I know that to be true in my life. But the ones that line up with His will, He will bless you with.

Believe that! Trust that!

Go before Him with a clear conscience and pure heart. If you have doubt, guilt, or shame, give it to Him. Repent. He already knows what you have done and loves you anyway. I know He loves me and forgives me, but I first had to ask for His forgiveness and receive it!

Maybe you’re saying to yourself, “I do not know how to pray. I can’t bring that to Him in prayer!” I know…and have had these thoughts in the past. When I started to pray, my first words were, “God, I’m not sure how to do this, but here I am.” He showed me how to pray, and it got easier.

My prayers started in a journal, and this is how Butterfly Letters came about.

It was easier for me to write my feelings and thoughts to Him and then try to hear from Him. I called them my Dear God letters. When I was done, I would wait and write From God.

There were beautiful moments, truths and hard realities, that He shared with me. It was a way to learn how to quiet my mind and hear from Him. I recommend it for everyone. It became a beautiful way to pray and still is for me. What I’ve learned is that He is not looking for perfection, and He wants to carry my burdens. Praise GOD!

Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you.

Psalm 55:22

Praying is having a conversation with God. Nothing fancy, no big words, and He’s not expecting you to talk in tongues. Just you and Him! Ah! I love the sound of that. Just me and God sitting quietly in His presence. Feeling His presence and being comforted by His presence. God wants to have a friendship and relationship with us. He wants to hear from us but also desires to teach us to be still enough to hear from Him. It’s not a one-way conversation!

Invite God into your life, into your heart, and develop a relationship with Him. Ask him to teach you how to grow and develop a relationship, and He will show you the way, as He has for me.

For no relationship with man can fulfill your heart and longing like God can!

Blessings,

Jill
